7 Days to Die: What to Expect from the 1.0 Update (2024)

After over ten years of being in early access with more than twenty alpha builds, believe it or not, the full release of 7 Days to Die is finally approaching. With the release date for 7 Days to Die’s 1.0 update set for June 2024 for PC, and July 2024 for consoles, new and returning fans won’t have to wait too much longer before experiencing everything the full release has to offer, followed by at least another year of post-launch support.

In addition to a tentative release window, the development studio behind 7 Days to Die, The Fun Pimps, has also recently revealed their post-launch plans for the game, via a roadmap for 7 Days to Die. This roadmap covers the studio’s planned content and features for the game throughout the rest of 2024 and 2025 so far, and in the meantime, the studio has also discussed the possibility of additional features coming to the game that are not currently included in the version 1.0 roadmap.

7 Days to Die: What to Expect from the 1.0 Update (2)

As for everything new coming to 7 Days to Die in the full release either immediately or shortly after, the 2024-2025 roadmap provides a rough outline. This notably includes:

  • 1.0 PC and Console release
  • New character system
  • Clothing/armor overhaul
  • New challenge system
  • New points of interest
  • Updated VFX/graphics upgrades
  • Optimization

7 Days To Die Has Come A Long Way Throughout Early Access

7 Days to Die is a base-building, open-world survival game with optional PvP, set in a zombie apocalypse. In typical survival fashion, players start off with crude tools and resources and eventually progress through more advanced gear in 7 Days to Die, including but not limited to firearms and vehicles. Currently, there is no story mode to the game, so instead, the main gameplay loop takes players through clearing points of interest and completing jobs for the trader NPCs to upgrade their gear. Additionally, a blood moon will come on set nights that tasks players with surviving against a horde of agile and resilient zombies.

One of the biggest changes to come from the game’s full release is that the console version of 7 Days to Die will be receiving the 1.0 release, and eventually, there will be cross-play between consoles and PC. The build of the game that was previously released on consoles, now known as the legacy version, was essentially dead on arrival because it was full of bugs at launch. Before too much longer, console players will finally get to join in on the fun of the full release, and The Fun Pimps will continue to support the console version going forward.

7 Days To Die Has a Massive Modding Community

With the game’s full release fast approaching, community mods for 7 Days to Die will presumably become much more popular. Considering that the game already has a large variety of popular cosmetics, progression overhauls, and content mods, this should be a sweet treat for players to provide a fresh experience in between official updates for the game.

While the 1.0 release for 7 Days to Die on console won’t immediately support community mods, this feature will potentially come in the near future.

Since the game’s initial launch in early access back in 2013, 7 Days to Die has endured many hardships throughout its long early access period. Despite all of this though, the game’s imminent release is truly a testament to the studio’s dedication to the game after all these years. Not to mention, new and longtime fans can look forward to all the post-launch content coming for the game as well.
