Avalon nightclub in Hollywood is one of the city's most popular clubs, known for featuring top DJs and up and coming bands. It is located in a historic 1927 building near the corner of Hollywood and Vine that was once the Palace Theatre. Like many LA clubs, they seem to remodel every couple years to keep the venue fresh.
The building includes Avalon nightclub downstairs and Bardotupstairs.
Avalon is a large club space with a big dance floor and a full stage up front for live bands and DJs. VIP table service is available at booths on a mezzanine level at the opposite end of the stage overlooking the dance floor.
There is a connected room with spacious leather booths and chandeliers with a second small dance floor with its own line-up of DJs.
The after-hours club,After Dark, takes over the smaller space on Friday nights after 2 am. It can be confusing because Avalon overflows into the space before 2 am, then they close Avalon and make you pay another cover to get back in the same space through another door.
On Saturdays, Avalon stays open through the night without closing.
Avalon gives a name to each night, as is the trend in LA clubs. At this writing, Tiger Heat is the Thursday night gay night and Control is on Fridays, subject to change at any time. Same club, different name.
The Avalon space hosts outside concerts and special events on other nights.
Upstairs is Bardot, a restaurant, lounge and dance club with a much warmer and intimate atmosphere.

The crowd depends on the night, the bands and the DJs. At Avalon, Thursday is gay night. Fridays and Saturdays are a mixed bag, with Saturdays skewing heavily Asian.
The music is mostly house, but DJs and bands bring their own fans. On my most recent Friday visit, although it was an 18+ night, the crowd was predominantly 21 to 30 with every ethnicity represented, with horn-rimmed glasses making a frequent appearance.
Upstairs at the more loungy Bardot, the guest-list-only crowd is still diverse and accessible, but you're more likely to see A-list celebs pop in here, where they can be whisked out through secret exits, out of the view of the paparazzi. Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carmen Electra, Paris Hilton, the Entourage cast, the Black Eyed Peas, Prince, Lindsay Lohan and Shane West are just a few of the Hollywood elite who are rumored to occasionally put in an appearance.

Avalon brings in bands and DJs that play house music, but there's a lot of diversity in that category, so check the website to see who is playing on the night you're thinking of going.
There are two dance floors, so if you don't like what's on the main stage you can check out what's playing in the space shared by Avalon, Honey and Spider After Dark.
Upstairs at Bardot, music style changes depending on what night it is with themes ranging from jazz to disco. A lot of rock musicians come in on Wednesday nights for LA BOUM and special guests.

Bardotis a restaurant, lounge and dance club located above the famed Avalon nightclub in Hollywood. It is smaller than Avalon, with a much warmer and intimate 1920's speakeasy atmosphere, and draws a more elite clientele.
Part of Bardot is an open air lounge where smoking is permitted. Unfortunately, the gaps in the covered roof really don't offer enough ventilation, and you have to walk through this smoky area to get to the interior lounge and dance floor.
On Monday evenings, they host “It’s A School” with KCRW from 8 pm - 1 am. On Thursday evenings, Bardot is open to VIPS for Tiger Heat from 10 pm to 2 am. On Fridays and Saturdays, Bardot is typically open to accommodate overflow for the in-house club nights from 10 pm to 2 am.
Bardot is frequently used for private Hollywood parties, which may limit access to the general public, but sometimes the public is let in at the end of the party, giving ordinary folks the chance to rub shoulders with some famous faces.
The Crowd
Despite being guest-list-only, the crowd at Bardot is pretty laid back. You're more likely to see A-list celebs pop in here, where they can be whisked out through secret exits, out of the view of the paparazzi, but it's not an every night occurrence. If big names are in attendance, you'll' probably see the photographers camped out front.
Bruno Mars, Danielle Panabaker, Chloe Moretz, Ian Somerhalder, Tyrese, Casey Affleck, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carmen Electra, Paris Hilton, the Entourage cast, the Black Eyed Peas, Prince, Lindsey Lohan and Shane West are just a few of the Hollywood elite who have put in an appearance.Wednesdays and Sundays are rumored to be good star-sighting nights.
