Bones: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2024)

69% Tomatometer 16 Reviews 78% Audience Score 100+ Ratings Dr. Temperance Brennan, a forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institution and also writes books, has an impressive ability to read clues from victims' bones. Consequently, law enforcement calls her to assist with investigations when remains are so badly decomposed, burned or destroyed that standard identification methods are useless. Brennan is teamed with Special Agent Seeley Booth, a former Army sniper, who mistrusts science and scientists when it comes to solving crimes but who has developed respect for Brennan, both professionally and personally. What to Know

Critics Consensus

Despite the reliable presence of Emily Deschanel and David Boreanaz, Bones is a so-so police procedural that does little to capitalize on its novel premise.

Bones: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Kelly Lawler USA Today The long-running series drags near the end, but the first few seasons are the epitome of a good will they/won't they relationship. Nov 10, 2021 Full Review Bones: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Lucy Mangan Guardian It gets away with everything because it has the irreducible charm of something that is just a little better than it needs to be... Sep 19, 2018 Full Review Bones: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Gillian Flynn Entertainment Weekly If Bones holds up, it'll be because that old Sam-and-Diane, Maddie-and-David, Mulder-and-Scully opposites-attract stuff never feels standard when it's done right. Rated: B- Mar 14, 2017 Full Review Bones: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Sean Axmaker Stream on Demand ... it struck that perfect alchemy of fun characters, snappy dialogue, murder mystery complications, gooey forensics and, most important, screen chemistry bonded to perfection that most television never approaches. Jul 9, 2022 Full Review Bones: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (5) David Gurney Common Sense Media While Bones does not do much to innovate the format, it does have a unique advantage in its two lead characters. Rated: 3/5 Sep 18, 2018 Full Review Bones: Season 1 | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Roger Holland PopMatters It's a weak TV-by-numbers show that makes no attempt to live up to the Brennan books, and it has a single scant hope of surviving the scheduler's cull. Ted G This show goes a little over the top with many aspects of every episode and seems to be more unbelievable than anything else. There is clearly a significant amount of repetition, to the point I could write the next episode. The writers either went over the top or failed to do their homework.
