Naruto Uzumaki – October 10th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (1)

In part 1, Naruto Uzumaki is 12 and is 13 by the end. Naruto: Shippuden resumes when Naruto is 15 years old and lasts for roughly 2 years until Naruto is 17.

To begin with, Naruto is a clumsy and excitable tween. Though he was born with the title of the Nine-Tailed Fox Demon, he looks past the ill-treatment from his village and trains to become a highly-skilled shinobi of the Uzumaki clan.

Naruto joins Team 7 (Team Kakashi), where he works hard to earn the respect of everyone around him.

As the Nine-Tails, Naruto has access to an abundance of chakra like no other ninja his age. During his time with Team 7, Naruto learns the true extent of this power. He leaves part 1 with Jiraiya to train further and to be able to beat his best friend turned enemy Sasuke.

Upon his return in part 2, Naruto learns that his newfound maturity and capabilities come with added responsibility. He faces his own struggles while navigating his role in the Fourth Shinobi World War.

Naruto is the main reason that the war is won. At only 17 years old, he becomes the Seventh Hokage of Konoha, bringing him full circle and reaching his ultimate goal.

Jiraiya – November 11th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (2)

Jiraiya is already 50 when Naruto part 1 begins. By the time he comes back from training Naruto for 2 years at the beginning of part 2, Jiraiya is 54 years old.

As one of three Sannins (legendary ninjas) of Konoha, Jiraya was a sought teacher. He trained many of the characters in the show, including Naruto’s father. This led to Jiraoya becoming a godfather to Naruto after his father’s death.

Training with the third Hokage of Konoha when he was younger, Jiraiya was told that one day he would teach a young ninja who would be the savior of the destruction of the world. That young ninja was Naruto, who Jiraiya takes on as a student at the end of part 1.

In season 6, episode 21 of Naruto: Shippuden, Jiraiya is killed at 54 years old while investigating the increasingly dangerous Akatsuki, making Naruto his final student. This is when he realizes that Naruto is the professed young ninja.

Sasuke Uchiha – July 23rd

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (3)

Sasuke Uchiha is 12 years old at the beginning of Naruto, turning 13 before its end. In part 2, Sasuke is a little bit older than Naruto at 16. His birthday is 3 months before Naruto’s, so he turned 16 just before Naruto: Shippuden began. Sasuke is 17 at the end of part 2.

As Naruto’s best friend and rival, Sasuke makes up a third of Team 7. He is the opposite of Naruto, anti-social and gloomy, where Naruto is excitable. This is partly because Sasuke witnessed the murder of the whole Uchiha clan at the hands of his older brother Itachi.

Sasuke does open up to his teammates throughout part 1, but when facing off against Orochimaru, he has the Cursed Seal forced upon him.

After that point, Sasuke becomes darker and leaves Konoha altogether, starting down a path of crime on the hunt for his brother.

When he does find his brother, Sasuke fights him, seeking revenge for their murdered village. It is not until Itachi’s death that Sasuke learns the truth about his brother and realizes his own mistakes.

Sakura Haruno – March 28th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (4)

Sakura Haruno is 12, turning 13 like Naruto and Sasuke as the series progresses. In part 2, Sakura is 15, ending the series when she is 17.

At first, Sakura doesn’t stand out as anything special against the rest of Team 7. Her lack of confidence in her abilities means she is often left on the sidelines and stays out of fights.

However, she realizes towards the end of part 1 that not putting herself forward and relying on her teammates is dangerous. This is only proven after Sasuke leaves Konoha, taking away a critical crutch for Sakura.

While Naruto is training with Jiraiya, Sakura trains with Tsunade Senju. During this time, she becomes one of the best medical ninjas just below Tsunade and acquires a superhuman strength – much like her teacher.

Kakashi Hatake – September 15th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (5)

When we are first introduced to Kakashi Hatake in part 1, he is 26 years old. He is approaching his 30’s at the beginning of part 2, starting at 29 and ending the series at 31.

Kakashi’s main role in part 1 is as the leader of Team 7, teaching Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura the value of teamwork.

In fact, he refuses to take the team on as students until they understand the importance of teamwork which they eventually do.

To begin with, Kakashi is deceptively carefree, preferring to read his books than keep track of training sessions. As the series goes on, it is revealed that Kakashi is also known as Kakashi of the Sharingan. With this information, Kakashi suddenly becomes a much more complex character.

Kakashi was given the eye of Sharingan by his friend Obito who presented the gift as his dying wish during the Third Shinobi World War.

In part 1, Kakashi has already had years to master the Sharingan. We get to see its full power in part 2 when he is fighting against the Akatsuki.

Itachi Uchiha – June 9th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (6)

Itachi Uchiha starts part 1 at 17 years old, ending it as an adult at 18. Then, he begins part 2 at 20. Itachi died during a fight with his younger brother – Sasuke – in part 2 when a mysterious illness finally caught up with him. He was 21 when he died.

A member of the Uchiha clan, Itachi was considered a prodigy ninja, paving the way for Sasuke. Then one day, Itachi murdered his whole clan. He left only Sasuke alive and joined the Akatsuki directly after.

Itachi constantly attacks Konoha in part 1, facing off against his brother countless times. However, in part 2, a final battle with Sasuke proves lethal.

It is not until after his death that Itachi’s true intentions for everything he had done are revealed.

Hinata Hyūga – December 27th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (7)

Hinata Hyūga ages from 12 to 13 in part 1, the same as Team 7. Due to when her birthday falls, Hinata stays 16 for the whole of part 2.

As the heiress of the Hyūga clan, Hinata was raised to take on the role as head of the main household when she was ready. But her ninja teacher shared his worries for her abilities a few years into her training.

Soon after, Hinata was disowned and shunned by the Hyūga clan.

After having her confidence shattered, Hinata meets Naruto and is instantly inspired once more. She joins Team 8 and progresses through the rigorous tests with her cousin Neji.

By the end of part 1, Hinata has proven herself to her team and her clan. Her relationship with Naruto continues to bloom well into and after part 2.

Neji Hyūga – July 3rd

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (8)

Neji Hyūgan is 13 at the start of part 1, then 14 but the end. He begins part 2 at 17 and reaches adulthood (18) at some point in the series.

As a servant to the main Hyūga family, Neji is already doubtful about the morals of the Hyūga hierarchy when his will is entirely shattered. He is branded with a mark that allows the family to torture him if there is any sign of rebellion.

It is not until he meets Naruto that Neji realizes he can carve a path for himself. He is highly skilled, instilled with the Byakugan like all of the Hyūgan clan, which he uses to advance his abilities once free of the clan.

Gaara – January 19th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (9)

At 12 years old in part 1, Gaara is the same age as Naruto. Like Naruto, Gaara is 15 when part 2 begins and is 17 when it ends.

Gaara and Naruto are similar in the fact that they were both shunned by their villages for being tailed beasts. Gaara’s father made Gaara Shukaku the One Tail when he was still in the womb to act as a weapon for their village, Sunagakure.

Due to how his father and his village treated Gaara, he thought the only way he could prove himself was to hurt people.

But after meeting Naruto while being sent to Konoha as a spy, Gaara realizes he doesn’t need to hurt people. Instead, he can protect them.

Rock Lee – November 27th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (10)

Rock Lee of the Lee clan is 13 at the beginning of part 1 and 14 when it concludes. Because of his late birthday, Rock remains 17 throughout part 2 – similar to Hinata.

Despite being unable to practice ninjutsu or genjutsu, Rock’s team leader (Might Guy) sees potential in his student. So, he teaches Rock hand-to-hand taijutsu.

He uses this to fight against Gaara during their Chunin exams but ultimately loses. Even though Gaara crushes the whole left side of Rock’s body, Rock still saves Gaara in part 2 when he is kidnapped, proving that he is simply a nice guy.

Orochimaru – October 27th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (11)

Orochimaru is 50 when he is introduced to Naruto in part 1 and turns 51 at some point in the series. In part 2, he is 54.

Though he once fought alongside Jiraiya and Tsunade as one of the legendary Sannin, Orochimaru became corrupt on his quest to unlock all the secrets of the world.

He decided that the only way he could achieve his ambition was to make himself immortal, leading to deadly experiments on innocent Konoha villagers. Orochimaru escapes Konoha to continue his work before he can be prosecuted for his crimes.

Orochimaru is the main protagonist in part 1 and causes just as much trouble in part 2 when he works with Sasuke to find the secrets of being a ninja. As his villainous subsides in part 2, so does Orochimaru’s physical appearance, shrinking from 5’10” (177.8 cm) to 5’7″ (170.2 cm).

Tsunade Senju – August 2nd

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (12)

Tsunade Senju is 51 in part 1 and 54 at the beginning of part 2, finishing the series at 55. This makes her the oldest Legendary Sinnin, but only by a few months.

Her descendency from 2 powerful Konoha clans (the Senju and Uzumaki clans) makes Tsunade one of the most powerful ninjas in the whole of the Naruto world. She is especially well known for being the most remarkable medical ninja and strongest kunoichi ever.

However, after losing one too many loved ones throughout her ninja career, Tsunade left Konoha to protect those around her.

Only after Naruto persuades her to return to Konoha does Tsunade take up the role of Fifth Hokage and proves to be an invaluable protector.

Madara Uchiha – December 24th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (13)

Absent in part 1, Madara Uchiha is introduced fully in part 2 at 90 years old. Though because he was resurrected, he does not appear this old.

As hinted by his name, Madara was once part of the Uchiha clan as 1 of 2 founders of Konohagakure. The village was intended to be a place of peace, but Madara constantly clashed with his fellow founder and friend Hashirama, eventually resulting in Madara’s death.

At least, that is what the village was led to believe.

Madara actually survived the fights and worked on his plans for world peace by himself in secret for years after. When he did die, these plans were passed onto Obito Uchiha with the order of bringing them to life.

But once Madara has been resurrected during part 2, he realizes what his plans have really done.

Obito Uchiha – February 10th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (14)

Obito Uchiha is only shown in flashbacks and side stories in part 1, where he is 13. But in part 2, Obito is his present-day age of 32, ending part 2 at 34.

A close friend of Kakashi, Obito is shown in part 1 to be training through the Third Shinobi World War to become a ninja. But during a rescue mission, Obito is crushed by a boulder.

During his last dying breaths, he transplants his Sharingan eye into Kakashi.

Thought to be dead from that point on, Obito is secretly saved by Madara, who heals him and turns him into his apprentice.

Warping his perception of the modern world, Madara grooms Obito to complete his plans by any means necessary.

Nagato – September 19th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (15)

Only introduced in part 2, Nagato is 35 years old.

Nagato initially set out to build a place of peace with his friends: Konan and Yahiko, leading to the discovery of Akatuski.

As a shinobi of Amegakure, Nagato wanted to build a shinobi lifestyle in Akatuski that was less reliant on violence. But when Yahiko dies, Nagato spirals out of control.

He becomes a bitter, vengeful dictator taking the name Pain and forcing his ideas of peace on the world. Alongside Konan, Nagato builds the ruthless Akatsuki.

Minato Namikaze – January 25th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (16)

Minato Namikaze was 24 when he was killed by the Nine-Tails. Unfortunately, Minato died before the events of part 1, even though he does appear in flashbacks and side stories.

The fourth Hokage of Konoha, Minato was known all over the world as the Yellow Flash. He trained under Jiraiya, so he was able to advance his abilities at a very young age.

When the Nine-Tails attacked his village, Minato was the only one able to fight off the threat but at the expense of his life. As a result, the Nine-Tails transferred into Minato’s unborn son, Naruto.

Kabuto Yakushi – February 29th

How Old Are the Naruto Characters? Ages & Birthdays Chart (17)

In part 1, Kabuto Yakushi is 19, turning 20 by the end but is not a main character. Then in part 2, Kabuto is 23, and 24 by the time the series comes to a close.

It is not necessarily his physical abilities that make Kabuto such a threat, but rather his intelligence. He is not as much of a danger as Orochimaru in part 1. By part 2, Kabuto has risen as the main antagonist.

Kabuto did work for Orochimaru but wanted to find his own way in the world and figure out his own identity outside of serving Orochimaru. This leads to plenty of harmful mistakes throughout part 2, but Kabuto is able to redeem himself towards the end of the series.
